🍂 fall classes + crockery

Locust Light Farm

Hi there,

I'm emerging from the chaos of trying to fit too much in August, and I'm looking forward to teaching classes again this fall (next week!).

I'll be at Botanicwise this year, and I'm super excited! I'm going to be vending on behalf of Pure Indian Foods, sampling the skincare products I've been working for months. If you want to try ghee-based Ayurvedic skincare, stop by!

I'm wishing you lots of chai and spiciness as we transition to autumn.

yours in nutmeg,

Amanda

P.S. Since working at Pure Indian Foods, I got two of these clay mugs, which I have very romantic feelings about in the realm of crockery, rustic kitchens, and my general imaginings of life in a secluded cottage. The mugs absorb whatever you put in them, so I'm happily layering in lemongrass, warming spices, and any herbal teas. The mugs do let liquid through, so you have to put them on something so they don't make a ring... anyway John's been laughing at me that I basically got mugs that just don't work well. But I still love them, and I thought I'd mention them here in case you have romantic notions about crockery, too.

Community Bulletins

  • This year, my husband's farm is being featured in a monthly series in our local paper. August's article focused on Jorge and Samuel, two employees from Mexico who are here on H2A visas for their third season. Jorge and Samuel have made John's transition from working crazy hours to parenting + farming possible, and we are deeply grateful for them, while feeling acutely aware that their work here helps John to be more present with his own family while taking them away from theirs. Life is complex and global inequality is unfair.
  • I've been mentioning my friend Sheila Masterson's books here for a while, and I'm thrilled to mention that her latest book has been an NYT BESTSELLER FOR THREE WEEKS! It was the #1 Hardcover Bestseller the first week it came out. I just can't get over this. I'm so proud of her. If you like audio books, some apparently very famous voice actors are narrating it.

Herbalism for your real life.

Herbs can make your life better. I can show you how. I teach herbalism to beginner and intermediate herbalists, both online and in my classroom in Stockton, NJ. I'm also the Herbal Pharmacy teacher at David Winston’s Center for Herbal Studies, where I teach clinical herbalism students to make medicinally potent preparations. I emphasize deliciousness in herbal preparations and only measure ingredients when I absolutely have to. I love crosswords, cozy mysteries, and searching for gnomes in the mossy crevices along the nearby creek.
