cool stuff this week!

local radio + film screening + winter wellness

Locust Light Farm

Hi there,

I'm emerging from what I can only imagine was the very bad flu that everyone's talking about, so this is a very short email, but I wanted to let you know about some cool stuff going on this week.

Cool stuff this week:

MONDAY

I'll be live on WDVR!

On Monday, 1/19, at 4:30 pm, I'll be on "Let's Talk" to chat with my good friend Kendra Rex and Andy Kim about common herbs (available at the grocery store) for winter wellness. "Winter wellness" is my current personal obsession so I've got lots to say.

If you're local, tune into 89.7 WDVR, or livestream it here.

WEDNESDAY

"Roots so Deep" Screening + Discussion at Newtown Theatre

Bowman's Hill Wildflower Preserve has teemed up with the Newtown Theatre to present a screening about the ecological potential of rotational grazing. There will be a discussion afterward hosted by people who know a lot about all this.

I currently live on a property that has been conventionally farmed, and a portion of it has recently been transitioned to a rotationally-grazed pasture. I'm so excited for this! See you there?

P.S. If you'd like to purchase beef (next year) that was raised on the pasture, my brother-in-law, who's extremely kind and chatty (and is raising the cows), will be there.

SATURDAY

Herbal Reset for Winter Wellness at Grounds for Sculpture
Saturday, 1/24, 1:00-3:00pm

More winter wellness coming your way! ( 😅) In this class we'll be simmering rich herbal decoctions, sipping them, and talking about the medicinal heavy-hitters for winter. You'll get to make a decoction blend to take home, and stroll around the grounds for the day!

SATURDAY 1/31

I'll be at the NOFA NJ Conference! I'll be teaching a demo class on herbal value-addeds, and John and I will be serving up herbal mocktails at happy hour!

Also The Moth will be giving the keynote, which is extremely exciting to me.

Cool stuff farther out...

I'll be teaching again at Herb Day this year! I'll be teaching about herbs for kids: what works, what's safe, and how to get the herbs into their squirmy, non-compliant bodies.

Herb Day is a FREE one-day herb conference filled with very talented teachers, exquisite vendors, and plants for sale!

It's Saturday, May 2nd, at Well Sweep Herb Farm in Port Murray, NJ.

Herb of the Month at Alkemy Coffee

Friday, February 2nd! Join us for a one-hour class all about one herb (tbd). You'll get herbal tea + a special bev featuring that herb from Alkemy Coffee.

Medicine-Making Immersion

Saturday, February 7th, 10am-5pm

Learn to make all the basic herbal preparations, and take them all home! This is a hands-on, science-filled class.

Special Topics in Herbalism

Saturday, February 22nd, 10am-5pm

For alumni of my Intro classes, join me for a day of deep-diving into topics of your choice!

speaking of which...

The Intro Program!

The full intro! Expanded this year! I'll send more emails about this soon, but I've brought in a second teacher, and it's going to be better than ever.

This program starts in March, so start to think seriously about it. I'm always happy to chat on the phone if you have questions. I know it's a big commitment.

Ok, that's what I've got for now. Back to snuggling and reading.

yours in snow days,

Amanda

Herbalism for your real life.

Herbs can make your life better. I can show you how. I teach herbalism to beginner and intermediate herbalists, both online and in my classroom in Stockton, NJ. I'm also the Herbal Pharmacy teacher at David Winston’s Center for Herbal Studies, where I teach clinical herbalism students to make medicinally potent preparations. I emphasize deliciousness in herbal preparations and only measure ingredients when I absolutely have to. I love crosswords, cozy mysteries, and searching for gnomes in the mossy crevices along the nearby creek.
